Frequently Asked Questions – Product
1. Is the product really natural? Is the product handmade?
Honey is a 100% natural product, as it undergoes no transformation. The honey extraction process carried out in our facilities involves passing the product through a series of machines to extract the honey from the honeycombs, but throughout the process, the product does not undergo any transformation, which is why it is considered a 100% natural food, and in our case, handmade.
2. What is raw honey? What is unfiltered honey? When is honey pasteurized?
Raw honey is that which is extracted without being filtered or pasteurized. To ensure the removal of impurities, waxes, animal residues, etc., and to carry out good extraction practices, it is necessary for the honey to pass through a filter before packaging. This filtration does not affect any properties of the product, and certainly does not eliminate pollens, which only occurs through ultrafiltration. Pasteurized honey is honey that undergoes a heating process above 80º. In our honey processing, it never exceeds 35º, so our honey retains all of its properties.
3. Why does honey crystallize? Is crystallized honey more natural than liquid honey?
Crystallization is a natural process of this food, as it is an oversaturated solution of sugars and tends to form crystals. Therefore, honey, by nature, can crystallize, but this process varies over time depending on the type of honey, so liquid honey is not necessarily less natural than crystallized honey. To decrystallize it, place it in a double boiler, ensuring the product does not exceed 40º.
4. Is dark honey better than light honey?
No. Dark honeys are stronger and more bitter than light honeys, but this does not imply better quality.
5. How can I know the origin of the honey?
The best way to know the origin of honey is to read the label. All honey must indicate its origin, if it is national, it will indicate: Origin Spain. Additionally, in our case, to guarantee the Asturian origin of our honey, our products carry the quality seal of the “Alimentos del Paraíso Natural” brand. All of our honey is produced, harvested, and packaged in Asturias.
6. Which honey is best for respiratory conditions?
Eucalyptus honey is particularly recommended for this type of condition.
